DESCRIBE: I attended The Drowsy Chaperone, an Enrichment Activity, on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in the Pearson Theatre at Concordia University- St. Paul. The play started off with a women off stage talking about the musical and she narrated throughout parts of the musical. The Drowsy Chaperone is based around a wedding between a man named Robert and a women named Janet. This was a very comedic show and there ends up being a group wedding.
INTERPRET: In the Honors Program, we have a section taught by Mrs. Dr. Schuler called Ritual Studies. We have learned about what a ritual is and have written a paper on a ritual in our life. The Drowsy Chaperone is based around a ritual, a wedding. The ritual of a wedding may not be the same for everyone, like the people in the musical are all married in a group, which is normally not done in our culture today.
EVALUATE: I really enjoyed watching this musical. I liked the woman in the chair off stage being the narrator of the show, I thought that it gave a nice flow to the musical and I liked how she explained parts of the musical that we may not have understood. Another aspect I liked was the fact that this musical was very comedic. Everyone enjoys a good laugh and I found myself continuously laughing throughout the two hours. Lastly, my favorite aspect was the music. I thought that the Drowsy Chaperone had a beautiful voice, along with everyone else, and she really played that part very well. If I could, I would go and see this musical again.
